Give us a break!

Can we just cut parents some slack?

Obviously eye contact is vitally important for the mother-child connection and gazing into your baby's eyes while they feed is one of life's pleasures.

But, here's the thing. Babies actually spend a lot of feeding time with their eyes closed. They're in their own little bliss-bubble.

It is fine to leave them to it and take your own break. That might be screen time, it might be conversation time. Or daydreaming time.

There is judgement around using devices. If you were reading a book or writing your grocery list on paper, people would complement your multitasking skills. Do that on a phone and you get tut-tutted at!

You spend hours every day #breastfeeding. You can do it 12 hours a day in the early weeks and even 12 months later you can be #naptrapped by a baby who resumes sucking if you even think about getting up!

Breastfeeding mothers do not belong on a pedestal. Feeding your baby is not some sacred act which is separate from daily life. Breastfeeding IS daily life.

Give us a break. Let us take a break.
